MC-02 Dubplate Recorder

The MC-02 (MiniCut 02) is a stereo cutting lathe designed and manufactured by JC Record Lathes in Brazil. We understand how difficult it can be to access an entry level stereo cutting lathe, so the MC-02 has been developed to help make things a little more assessable whilst offering something different to the lathe cutting industry with it's compact size, portability, and ongoing support.
The MC-02 is capable of both cutting and embossing. It has a dynamic head system, which comes frequency mapped EQ via software for the flattest possible head response. Due to the main use likely being stereo diamond cutting, the MC-02 has full head suspension with a counterweight for initial balancing, a spring for final suspension and an oil dashpot for damping.

One aim with the MC-02 is full user control. The machine is made in a way where the user can modify and upgrade easily, with readily available parts. We like to call it a naked lathe as all parts are on show, and all parts are replaceable by the user meaning the unit is future proofed moving forwards. Alongside our modifications, we also welcome 3rd party modifications such as the Phonolab 'MIDI-8' automation system and the System Phonics ’Nebula’ cutterhead which is now mountable on to the MC-02.
Below is technical information, price, what the kit includes if purchased from us and also a test cut for you to hear.

Support & Repairs
We will provide ongoing support to those who purchase the lathe, it doesn’t end after training. Whether it is an issue you are having with the lathe or just generally wanting to improve your technique we are happy to help. We know what this machine can do and we want to get people getting the best out of it. We have tested the lathe with our own materials (synthetic CVD diamonds and PETG plastic) and the results can be heard in the audio sample. If using other materials, we cannot provide as much support unless you specify the exact material composition. If we don’t know what you are working with, it is hard to give good advice. We have a dedicated support forum for users with full documentation, and a place to ask questions and get help from not only us, but the community.

Alongside general support, we also offer mastering advice. For the past 10+ years we have been running a professional mastering studio called Pressure Mastering where we have mastered thousands of songs that have been pressed to vinyl and cut to disc (for references see here). If anyone has problematic audio or just wants mastering advice, we can explain what the problems are and what needs to be done to fix them. Our aim is not only to sell products, but to help people achieve the best possible results.
In the event that you blow your head, a motor goes down or you run into an issue, we can provide repairs and parts which will be readily available for you. JC Record Lathes who are the manufacturers are great people, and we are all here to help.
