Recently we have had many tech support jobs and had lots of contact for advice for the Vinyl Recorder. One issue that comes up a lot is dropped chip/swarf to the point of it balling at the end of the metal vacuum tube.
This post is more of a reminder than advice. A simple solution that is often overlooked, check every bend and joint in your chip jar lid. This issue is common and more often than not people say that they have checked their lid and all is fine, but after making them take the lid off completely and thoroughly check all joints, there is usually a split that can only be seen by literally bending the lid.
Static can be a cause of dropped chip/swarf but if it’s balling at the end of the metal vacuum tube, it’s likely a split in the vacuum system and these lids get brittle quickly.
So, check your lid before you wreck your lid!
